Nirula's scrumptious North-South treat
Nirula's is more than just a restaurant for Delhi. For generations now, Nirula's has been the one of the first places to eat out with a continued effort in offering some thing new on a regular basis. The food giant maintains it is a preferred place in the hearts of people. The ongoing Thali festival called Thalicious is the new reason to check out Nirula's in case you haven't done so in the recent past.

A fantastic blend of authentic signature dishes from North and South India, these thalis offer a perfect sample of regional Indian cuisine. What would get your taste buds more excited is the price of the thalis; starting at just Rs 95 (plus taxes) onwards these thalis are a complete meal and feature some of the classic dishes like Chicken Chettinad and Awadhi Chicken. For the vegetarians there is Paneer Korma and Kachhe Kele ki Thali. The thalis come in two options regular and Deluxe. A complete South Indian treat in the offering, the Chettinad Chicken thali would surely end up being your favourite for some time.

This is the first time in its history that Nirula's has included a South Indian delicacy on their menu and full marks to them for getting it right. The serving includes Sambhar along with sumptuous Chettinad Chicken along with Poorni rice and two pooris. The accompaniments include plain curd, papad and Thokku pickle. The gravy of the chicken has a nice aroma and should under no circumstances be allowed to cool before digging in! The Deluxe version includes dessert, Kesri Halwa, besides a vegetable of the day and if you are lucky you'd end up getting Kachhe Kele ki Subzi to top it off. The Awadhi Chicken leaves a little to be desired. The inclusion of this north Indian savory is, sadly, at the cost of the classic Nirula's chicken curry. Although this Thalicious Food Festival is only on till 16th December the chicken curry has been conspicuously missing from the menu since the festival started.

The Awadhi Chicken comes with the Dal Makhani and Pudhina Parantha and the usual papad and pickle; the Deluxe version includes a vegetable of the day along with Patisa. The chicken seems to suffer at the hands of a recipe that comes across as rushed and while the flavours excite, it does fall short of tantalizing. The vegetarian scores better with Paneer Korma, which is a step up on Nirulas' Mutter Paneer. Since 1940's Nirula's has always believed in offering product that are affordably relevant and this Thali promotion is yet another milestone. Try it out and you won't stop smacking your lips.
